The Arboretum is located in the Rochester Village Park on Ebel Drive.  The Arboretum will feature trees and shrubs native to the state of Illinois.  The Arboretum includes an outdoor classroom that will be available for use by teachers, scout leaders and others.  Trails will allow visitors to stroll through the area and to see examples of many kinds of trees that they may wish to utilize in their home landscapes.  Plants that thrive in moist areas will be featured in a portion of the arboretum.

The arboretum area is seeded to minimize soil erosion.

The Village has appointed a citizens’ committee to oversee the Arboretum.  One of the committee’s primary responsibilities is to pursue sources of financial support for this addition to the park.  Several grants have been received for the project over the years.  Residents are encouraged to add their financial support through tax-deductible donations to the village’s arboretum fund.  Some suggested levels of support are:

  • Supporter: up to $50
  • Friend:  $50
  • Patron:  $100
  • Founder: $250
  • Benefactor: $500
  • Arborist: $1000

Assistance is always needed to place and maintain plants in the arboretum.  For information on how you can help, please contact the Village of Rochester office at (217)498-7192.
